From January 2014 right through to the grand re-opening of The Piece Hall on Yorkshire Day, 1st August 2017, I was lucky enough to capture the huge undertaking of the £22M transformation of this beautiful, one-of-a-kind building.
I still look back and try to fathom how I managed to land such an amazing job! I like to think I was one of the first (non-contractor) people to see the completion, before it reopened to the public on 1st August 2017.
Throughout the transformation, my job was to liaise with the site manager and contractors to arrange filming and photography of important stages of the works - such as the replacement of a tuscan column (as seen in the photo here), knocking through the fourth gateway (now known as the east gate), and even the first testing of the water feature!
The photography and video were posted on The Piece Hall's social media throughout the transformation, and the collection eventually formed my very own photography exhibition at The Piece Hall, once it reopened. It remained open until November 2017.
My transformation exhibition showed visitors some of the works that took place to transform the Piece Hall.
I captured every stage of the Piece Hall transformation through video and photography. I posted content on The Piece Hall's social media for people to follow along as the works progressed.
The gallery was on the 'colonnade' level of the Piece Hall, directly above the east gate.
The exhibition showcased a series of images relating to each stage of the works, such as the 'courtyard transformation' and 'rustic column replacement' galleries.
Information boards were also in situ, to provide visitors with more information about further plans to develop the town in the future.
It was fantastic to see so many enjoying the exhibition - many of whom left really positive feedback about how interesting they found the photography of the works, which otherwise would have been unseen by many!
